What to see in Cilento

A perfect base for exploring Cilento

Staying at Pensione Zio Attilio in Marina di Casal Velino puts you in a great position to explore the Cilento Coast. Set between the sea and the inland hills, our location makes it easy to discover archaeological sites, seaside villages, beaches and natural landscapes in different directions.

Just a few minutes away are the archaeological site of Velia and Pioppi, closely linked to the history of the Mediterranean Diet. Further afield, but easy to visit on a day trip, are the temples of Paestum, the sea caves of Palinuro and the villages of inland Cilento. Below are some of the places worth discovering during your stay.

A unique region

From the sea to the inland: discover Cilento

Cilento stretches along the coast south of Salerno, in Campania, and is largely protected by the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, one of Italy's largest protected areas. Since 1998, the Park, together with the archaeological sites of Paestum and Velia and the Certosa di Padula, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is a region where sea, history and nature come together: beaches and coves give way to ancient archaeological sites, hilltop villages and the landscapes of the inland.

Just a few kilometres from us, Pioppi is closely linked to the history of the Mediterranean Diet through the work of Ancel Keys. At Velia and Paestum, the ancient Greek heritage of Magna Graecia comes to life, while inland the Gole del Calore and villages such as Castellabate, Pollica, Felitto and Morigerati reveal a quieter and more authentic side of Cilento.
