The Lovers' Path in Marina di Ascea
A scenic seaside walk along the cliffs, past hidden coves and spectacular sunsets, just minutes from the guesthouse.
Just 15 minutes by car from Marina di Casal Velino lies Marina di Ascea, starting point of one of the most striking walks on the Cilento coast: the Lovers' Path (Sentiero degli Innamorati). A pedestrian trail that winds along the cliffs above the sea, past hidden coves, perfect for anyone looking for a quiet moment away from the crowded beaches — it's no surprise it's one of the most loved walks among our guests.
What to see. The path alternates panoramic stretches high above the cliffs with small descents toward secluded coves, ideal for a swim off the beaten path. On clear days, the highest viewpoints stretch all the way to Palinuro. It's an easy route with no major elevation changes, yet full of views that stay with you.
When to go. Late afternoon is best, to enjoy the sunset over the sea from the highest viewpoints — a sight worth the walk even after a full day at the beach. In peak summer, those wanting to avoid the heat can also walk it early in the morning, when the light is softer and the path nearly empty.
Practical tips. Comfortable shoes are recommended, as the trail isn't paved throughout, and it's worth bringing some water in the warmer months. It isn't suitable for strollers or those with mobility difficulties on the steeper sections near the cliffs.
Getting there. From Marina di Casal Velino, the Lovers' Path is about 15 minutes by car, following the coast south towards Ascea — the same road that also leads to Velia, so the two stops pair well for a half-day trip. If you'd like tips on the best access point or the ideal time to go, just ask us at the guesthouse.
